About Pantone Colors

Last updated: October 29, 2026

Pantone Colors is an independent, free reference for the Pantone Matching System. It catalogues all 2,371 Solid Coated Pantone colors with HEX, RGB, CMYK, and LAB values, provides every conversion direction between Pantone and other color systems, and offers a growing set of color tools — all without login, ads, or tracking. The site is not affiliated with Pantone LLC or any other color standards body.

Why this site exists

Designers, printers, brand managers, and students spend hours each month searching for Pantone codes, cross-referencing them to HEX or CMYK, and finding the closest match between one color system and another. The existing tools that handle these tasks are often slow, ad-heavy, visually outdated, poorly structured for search engines and AI answer engines, or behind paywalls. The official Pantone tools are excellent but require a paid subscription for many features and are focused on Pantone-to-Pantone work rather than Pantone-to-other-system conversions.

Pantone Colors fills the gap: a fast, free, complete reference that answers the color questions designers actually have. Every Pantone code is one click from a full page with all its values, its closest neighbors, and every relevant conversion. Every conversion — HEX, RGB, CMYK, HSL, HSV, LAB, RAL, NCS, paint brands — has a dedicated page with a working tool. No login, no rate limits, no ads, no cost.

What this site is not

This is not an official Pantone resource. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Pantone LLC. "Pantone," "PMS," "Pantone Matching System," "Color of the Year," and related names are trademarks of Pantone LLC. Similar disclaimers apply to RAL (RAL gGmbH), NCS (NCS Colour AB), Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, and every other brand mentioned on the site.

This is also not a production color-matching service. All color values on the site — HEX, RGB, CMYK, LAB, and every computed match — are digital approximations. No screen color matches a physical Pantone ink exactly. If you are producing physical goods (print, paint, textiles, packaging), always verify colors against physical Pantone chips before committing to production. This site is a starting point for design decisions, not a substitute for physical verification.

What you can do here

The site currently offers:

  • Full color catalog. All 2,371 Solid Coated Pantone colors, each with a dedicated page showing HEX, RGB, CMYK, LAB, family, closest neighbors, and cross-references to related systems.
  • Family and base-color hubs. 12 color families (red, orange, yellow, green, teal, blue, purple, pink, brown, beige, gray, black) plus 14 base colors that make it easy to browse by hue.
  • Every conversion direction. Pantone ↔ HEX, RGB, CMYK, HSL, HSV, LAB. Plus Pantone ↔ RAL Classic and Pantone ↔ paint brands (Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore).
  • Color of the Year. All 27 Pantone Color of the Year picks from 2000 to 2026, with codes, HEX, and design context.
  • RAL Classic coverage. All 213 RAL Classic colors as individual pages, plus RAL ↔ Pantone and RAL ↔ HEX converters.
  • Design tools. Color shades generator (50–950 scale), WCAG contrast checker, Pantone color palette builder (5 harmony modes), Pantone color chart PDF download, Pantone birth chart palette, image-to-Pantone finder, and side-by-side color comparison.
  • Delta E 2000 matching. Every converter and match uses Delta E 2000, the modern CIE standard for perceptual color difference, rather than the older Delta E 76 metric that most competitor sites still use.

How the site is built

Pantone Colors is a static website — every page is pre-built HTML, served from a global content delivery network. This means pages load in milliseconds, work on any device, and require zero backend infrastructure. Interactive tools (converters, pickers, palettes) run entirely in your browser using JavaScript, which means your data never leaves your device — not your images, not your palette selections, not your color inputs.

The site is built with Astro (a modern static site generator) and TypeScript, styled with Tailwind CSS, and deployed on Cloudflare Pages. The entire site costs nothing to host and nothing to build, which is why it can remain completely free with no ads and no registration. There is no server-side database, no user accounts, and no personal data collection of any kind. The privacy policy is correspondingly short.

Data sources and accuracy

The Pantone color values in the catalog are widely-published approximations, not official values from Pantone LLC. Pantone sells physical color books that are the only authoritative source for Pantone colors; our catalog is a digital reference designed to help you look things up and make design decisions, not a substitute for the physical books.

The RAL Classic values, Sherwin-Williams values, and Benjamin Moore values are similarly drawn from widely-published approximations. RAL is a physical paint standard, and different published sources disagree by 2–5% for the same RAL code; our catalog uses mid-range values.

For a full breakdown of where each data set comes from and how it is maintained, see the sources page. For editorial standards — how we decide what to publish, how we handle corrections, and how we disclose limitations — see the editorial policy.

How this site stays free

Pantone Colors costs about $0 per month to run. Cloudflare Pages hosts the static site on its free tier. All tools run client-side, so there is no server compute cost. There are no ads, no paid tiers, no subscriptions, and no affiliate links. If hosting costs ever rise beyond the free tier, they will be covered by the site operator rather than by user fees or advertising.

Corrections and feedback

If you find a data error, a broken tool, or a feature that would help your work, please get in touch. Corrections are the highest-priority changes; feature requests are reviewed and prioritized based on how many users would benefit. The changelog shows what has shipped recently.
