Pantone Finder

Search all 2,371 Pantone Solid Coated colors by name, code number, or family. Type "485", "ocean", or "light blue" and browse matches instantly. Each result shows its HEX and CMYK values, and clicks through to the full Pantone page with neighbors and cross-system references. Free, no login, no ads.

Search covers name and code. Family filter narrows results. Combine both: search "light" and filter to "blue" to find light blues.

What is the Pantone Finder?

The Pantone Finder is a search tool for the Pantone Solid Coated (C) color library. It lets you search by color name ("Ocean Blue"), by code number ("485", "700", "Blue 072"), or by family ("red", "blue", "green"). Results update live as you type and include the HEX value and CMYK print equivalent for each match.

This page is designed for the case where you know what you are looking for and just need to locate it quickly. If you have the Pantone code from a print spec and want to see the actual color, type the code here. If you have a color name from a brand manual and need its Pantone equivalent, type the name here. If you want to browse Pantone colors by hue, use the family filter or one of the family pages linked below.

The full Solid Coated library has 2,371 colors, all of which are indexed here. Other Pantone libraries (Solid Uncoated, Fashion Home + Interiors TCX, Plastics) are separate collections with their own codes. Those are covered by separate reference pages on this site.

How to search

  1. Type a Pantone name, code number, or family name in the search box above.
  2. Optionally narrow results by selecting a color family from the dropdown.
  3. Review the live results grid showing swatch, name, HEX, and CMYK for each match.
  4. Click any result to open its full Pantone page with all values and closest neighbors.

The search is case-insensitive and partial-match. Typing "r" returns every color whose name or code contains an "r" - which is many. Typing "485" returns the exact Pantone 485 C and any other codes containing 485. To narrow further, combine with the family filter.

What you can search for

The search box handles several query patterns:

  • Exact codes. "485 C" or "485" or "PANTONE 485" all find Pantone 485 C. The "C" suffix is optional.
  • Numeric ranges. "700" finds all 700-series colors (700 C through 707 C). "75" finds 750 C, 751 C, 175 C, 275 C, and any other color whose code contains 75.
  • Color names. "Ocean" finds Ocean Blue. "Reflex" finds Reflex Blue. "Orange 021" finds the full name.
  • Descriptive terms. "Light blue", "dark green", "warm gray" - these terms appear in many Pantone color names. The search will return all colors whose names contain those words.
  • Family names. Type "red" to find all colors whose name contains "red" (like Red 032) plus any color in the red family. Combine with the family dropdown for stricter filtering.

Search does not cover descriptive terms that do not appear in any Pantone color name. For example, searching "cerulean" returns no results because no Solid Coated color is literally named Cerulean. For color matching from a value or from an image, use the converters linked below.

Common Pantone searches

The most-searched Pantone codes are the ones named in brand manuals, packaging specs, and design systems. A few examples:

  • 485 C - the classic fire-engine red used across consumer brands. Frequently cited as the closest published match to the Coca-Cola red.
  • 286 C - the deep royal blue used on the US flag and in many government and institutional applications.
  • Reflex Blue C - the classic "print blue" used in European print standards and most brand guidelines.
  • Black C - the standard spot black for text, outlines, and single-ink work.
  • 186 C - a slightly cooler red often cited as the closest Pantone approximation to Ferrari red.
  • 123 C - the classic school-bus yellow, also called "National School Bus Glossy Yellow" in federal specs.
  • 11-4201 - Cloud Dancer, the 2026 Pantone Color of the Year. Search by TCX code finds the full TCX page, not the Solid Coated library. Use the Pantone Textile hub for TCX codes.

Pantone Finder vs Image to Pantone

These two tools look similar in name but solve different problems.

Pantone Finder (this page) is a text search. You know the name or code you are looking for, and the tool finds it. It is useful when you have a Pantone reference from a brand manual, a packaging spec, or a design system, and want to look it up.

Image to Pantone is the reverse. You upload an image, click a pixel, and the tool finds the closest Pantone match using Delta E 2000. It is useful when you have a color from a photograph or mockup and need to identify the Pantone equivalent.

For color matching from a specific value (HEX, RGB, CMYK, HSL, LAB), use the converters linked below. Those run the same Delta E 2000 matching as Image to Pantone but take a color value as input instead of an image.

Data and accuracy

The Pantone Finder searches Solid Coated color names and codes as published in the catalog underlying this site. The color values shown (HEX, RGB, CMYK) are widely-published digital approximations of the physical Pantone inks, not official values from Pantone LLC. For production work, always verify against physical Pantone chips before committing to print. See the editorial policy for full disclosure on data sources and limitations.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find a Pantone color by name?+

Type any part of the color name into the search box. Matching is case-insensitive and partial. Typing "ocean" finds "Ocean Blue" and any other color with "ocean" in its name. Typing "orange 021" finds that exact color. The full list of 2,371 Pantone Solid Coated colors is searchable this way.

How do I find a Pantone color by code number?+

Type the number or the full code into the search box. "485" finds Pantone 485 C, "700" finds all 700-series colors, "7" finds every color whose code contains a 7. You do not need to include the "C" suffix - the search normalizes both forms, so "485" and "485 C" return the same result.

Can I search for a partial Pantone code?+

Yes. Partial codes are supported. Typing "75" returns all colors whose code contains 75 - including 750 C, 751 C, 752 C, 175 C, 275 C, and more. This is useful for exploring a range or finding a color when you only remember some of the digits.

What is the difference between the Pantone Finder and Image to Pantone?+

This page (the Pantone Finder) is a text search tool: type a name or code and browse matching colors. The Image to Pantone tool is the reverse: upload an image, click any pixel, and find its closest Pantone match. Use this page when you know what you are looking for. Use Image to Pantone when you have a color from an image or design and need to identify it.

Can I browse all Pantone colors in a specific family?+

Yes. Select a family from the dropdown above (red, orange, yellow, green, teal, blue, purple, pink, brown, beige, gray, black), and the results will show only colors from that family. You can combine family filtering with a text search - for example, search "light" and filter to "blue" to find light blues.

How many Pantone colors are searchable?+

All 2,371 Solid Coated (C) Pantone colors are searchable on this page. Other Pantone libraries (Solid Uncoated, Fashion Home + Interiors TCX, Plastics) are separate collections with their own codes and are covered by separate reference pages on this site.

Do I need to include the C suffix in my search?+

No. The search handles both forms. Typing "485" returns 485 C, and typing "485 C" returns the same result. The suffix is stripped during search so you can search the way most people remember Pantone codes - by their numeric part.

Why does my search return no results?+

The Pantone Finder searches Solid Coated color names and codes only. If you are searching a term that does not appear in any Pantone color name (like "cerulean" or "fuchsia"), try a broader term or use the family filter to browse by color family. For color matching from a value or an image, use the HEX to Pantone or Image to Pantone tools instead.
